I saw this when I came tonight, and I didn't/don't know if I should respond, because I like you as a poster, and my point of view is kinda different from the others that responded to you. I you understand. I work with wildlife every day, as a part of a permitted wildlife rehabilitation group. Most importantly to me, any animal that's been caught by a larger animal/predator have injuries that be hidden by fur, and like you and me, if I were bitten by a dog, I would get it checked out. Small wounds can become infected very quickly, and without veterinary treatment can become fatal. people don't know that it's illegal to keep or rehabilitate wildlife without a permit from USFWS and the state/district that you live in. Lots of people that I talk to say things like "that's big government" or "the government has no business", but from my point of view, rehabilitators are trained and take classes to treat injuries/illness (and we all work closely with veterinarians), and we take very, very seriously the rights of wild to remain wild. It is my opinion that keeping a wild animal and teaching it that humans are OK is doing a grave disservice to the animal all humans aren't like you, and should a tamed squirrel enter someone -'s house and freak them out, it's likely to become a dead squirrel. Also, wild aren't tame, no matter how they're in captivity. Wild resort to wild behavior under stress or during breeding, and behave in ways we not understand – when the adorable that people raised suddenly turns on a when it goes into rut, etc. I know that when I was a kid, my family did the same thing with wild we looked into turning bunnies, skunks, jays you name it as pets, and back in the 70's it was legal! But since working with wildlife on a daily basis, the stories I've heard and seen (people who rescue an animal and feed it the wrong thing, or who tame a animal that never be able to be released into the wild and become dangerous when its adult and gets hormonal) have changed my perspective.
